College Bowl Game Strategy
The bowl games are in full swing and it’s time to make some money on them. Year after year, the best strategy by far has been selectively betting on small to medium underdogs. You want good teams that may very well win the game outright who are getting a few points, preferably more than a field goal.
While taking the points and making an outright wager (that is, laying -110) at a traditional sportsbook will hold it’s own when betting the better bowl dogs, it’s much better to bet the moneyline in these games. Especially on 4.5 to 7 point underdogs! These wagers will pay 2-1 or better on your money when they hit.
The best place to do this is at a betting exchange such as Tradesports (my favorite) or Betfair. The sportsbook money lines will not be as good as what you can finagle by posting your offers in the middle of the bid and ask spread at these sites.
As an example, I have made one wager so far on the bowl games and that was on UCLA to win outright. The risk was $90 to win $220 on the position I took at Tradesports. They ended up losing by 1 point when they managed not to make a field goal from the 3-yard line on the last play of the game. Clearly this wager had the best of it. (UCLA was a 6.5 point underdog.)
With that in mind, here are my picks for the remaining bowl games. Bet these teams to win outright at the betting exchanges while getting more than 2-1 odds on your wager.
